Café Gulkhana

Café Gulkhana is a forum for visual & performing artists, poets, writers, designers, architects, and heritage conservation professionals. The Café has a gallery displaying Ethnic artworks and vernacular crafts. The café offers a conservation workshop space and a Photography Studio where a group of dedicated heritage professionals and interns work in the areas of preservation, conservation and documentation of the rich cultural Heritage of Pakistan, with a primary focus on the Walled City of Lahore.

The Gallery started as a small collection of memorabilia, artefacts and crafts. Now the collection of Ethnic Artefacts has diversified and has grown into an inspiration for tourists and artists. The ever growing collection is a constant motivation and source of passion. It is actively involved in acquiring new tools and developing indigenous techniques to further expedite the process of preservation and conservation. The Gallery is now archiving its cultural heritage collection.
Architects and Interior Designers visit the gallery for inspiration and guidance for integration of Ethnic understanding of aesthetics in residential town house, home offices and commercial spaces, corporate offices and farm houses.

The Café is also encouraging the new talent into becoming professional models for shoots involving local cultural aesthetics. The first photographic portfolio is arranged at the Studio. The Islamic Arts and Calligraphy section at the Gallery helps young Artists to look for manuscripts and the relationship of various cultures and the development of fine art of Calligraphy over the years.

The Gallery is a treasure for students of Persian, Turkish, Arabic, and Uzbek languages, who will find a rare collection of antique manuscripts written over the ages on handmade paper, bound in Fez style leather (A classic Moroccan product) that are yet to be translated.
